Leafs 4 Sharks 3
With the Sharks dominating most of the play and the score board putting up a 3-1 lead going into the later half of the second period, the Leafs pulled off a comeback win notching the winning goal at the 1:38 mark in the second period. A pinpoint backhander by Rob Aitchison found the top right corner of the net to give the Leafs the lead late in the game. With players jamming the net, goalie Jeff Bowman for the Sharks was handcuffed and partially screened on the shot and couldn’t make a move on the puck as it entered the net.
Rob Aitchison was named game MVP by the local press and his peers for his timely game winning goal.
Consolation MVP for the Sharks selected by the local press and his peers was Mike Benner.
Sharks 4 Leafs 0
Sharks came out of gate firing on all cylinders shooting at every chance they had at goalie Terry (Woody) Woodman who lead the league this season in shutout. But the tables would soon be tilted as Woody was on unfamiliar ground after leading the league with the lowest goals against average this season, Woody was being shelled by pucks from every angle on the ice. Soon the Leafs found themselves down 3-0 after the first period of play.
Ralph Smith was named game MVP by the local press and his peers for his grit and effort in a loosing cause. Ralph never quit and skated until the final buzzer trying to break Stan Johnston’s shutout for the Sharks.
Consolation MVP for the Sharks selected by the local press and his peers was Reg Owen. Reg was key on setting up two key goals for the Sharks in their 4 – 0 win.
